Weather conditions or circumstances beyond our control may require changes to the original trip itinerary. If we incur additional expenses for unexpected logistical arrangements, not covered in the advertised itinerary, the cost will be evenly divided among the participants.
To date we have rarely had to charge for such unexpected expenses, but we feel obliged to inform you that it could happen.
- Transport
Local Bus Aqp - Cab
If you decide to come with a local bus you must know that these buses does not have toilet. Most locals take the bus to reach Colca Valley it can be an experience for you. The bus stops in Chivay for toilet time and continues to Cabanaconde. It also stops in all the villages. The ride is from 5 to 6 hrs. We only book the bus tickets and drop at your hotel and you must take a taxi on your own to reach the terminal. The taxi is not included in the service. Here the itinerary for the local buses
Tourist Bus Aqp Cab at (max 22p)
This is a minivan that comes to pick you up at your hostel. This service is a shared service and it will stop at Chivay for breakfast and at the Condor Viewpoint. Read here the itinerary for the Minivan Arequipa to Cabanaconde
Tourist Bus Cabanaconde - Arequipa 9am (max 22p)
On the way back from Cabanaconde will also be the minivan and it will stop in some viewpoints. Arrival to Arequipa near the main square at 5pm. Minivan Cabanaconde to Arequipa
Tourist Bus Cabanaconde to Puno 9am
If you continue at the end of the tour to Puno. The bus from Cabanaconde to Chivay is a minivan. it will make 2 stops to viewpoint, the village of Maca and will drop you at the office of 4m/express which you continue to Puno. The bus from Chivay to Puno is run by 4m-expressed and it also stops in some viewpoints on the way to Puno. Minivan Cabanaconde to Puno
- Accomodation
1st Night at our Hostel Pachamamahome in Cabanaconde
You stay at our hostel in Cabanaconde and you will get private rooms. Our hostel has a nice terrace, good hot water system and good duvets for the cold. Our hostel also exhibit my photography of the area and it has also a nice wood-fired pizzeria. Your dinner is included on this day. More info about our hostel Pachamamahome here
Family Homestay in Llahuar
Llahuar lodge is our good friends and they offer mainly cabins, most of them are private but shared toilet. Llahuar is unique with its hot springs near the river. The family who runs this bussiness are the best. We will ensure you have a nice room.
Bungalow in Sangalle
Sangalle offers basic accommodation, shared toilets and showers. Modernizations is not found in Colca Canyon trek, so it will be part of the experience. Our bungalow has a swimming pool and it offers a great view.
- The Guide
Our Trekking guide has a valid certificate from the minister of Tourism of Arequipa. We offer a trekking guide in English and they will share their knowledge of the area.
If you hire a service with our local guide from Cabanaconde he or she only speaks Spanish, but they know perfect the area and they do their best so you have a different experience.
- Meals
Food is very basic, but good. Food will be based on a soup and main meal and it will provided by the family homestay of Llahuar and Sangalle (Oasis) in order to help with the local economy. Please, understand that we cannot carry products from Arequipa or Cabanaconde or that we won´t serve food at the menu, but we will add some extra things as fruits, juice and food for the vegetarians.
- Water
You need water at least 2 liters per day. You can purchase water in Cabanaconde for the start and refill or buy water in Llahuar - Sangalle - Fure. You can also purify water from the villages.
- The Trails
Most of the trails are in good conditions. There are not profesional signals in most of the paths. Our Guide will lead us always to safe path and safe shortcuts. The trek on second day from Llahuar to Paclla we must walk on the route, but later on we will continue to a trail till the viewpoint of Apacheta. Then we continue to Malata on the route and finally we take a trail to Sangalle.
- Mule
You can ride a mule from Sangalle to Cabanaconde for an extra. This service can be arrange with the guide during the hike.
- Insurance
You must arrange your own insurance to visit Peru.
- List for the Hike
We recommend you to pack light to enjoy Colca Canyon. Bringing some unnecessary items can be a bad experience for your hike. Here we have a basic list.
